Rescue Balm
Tested by Miroslava Moore
Just before my holiday I was contacted by GreenKiddie to review the Skin Clinic Rescue Balm from Kosmea. The first thing I liked about it was, that it is an Australian product (and I think you know from my previous posts how I LOVE Australia) and the second, all the ingredients are organic. Unfortunately, I missed the special delivery before going on holiday, but it was worth waiting for it.
First when I saw it, I was not sure if this is going to be any use to me. Then I read all the information about the use and straight away I thought of my daughter. She is just over 3 years old and really suffers from cuticles, which she very often bites. We have been using it on her hands and nails now for more than a week and I can tell you, there is definitely a visible improvement. She loves using it, it has become part of our bedtime routine. I have also started using it on my feet. My skin after a beach holiday was very dry. You should see it now. My verdict: "I LOVE IT".
This multi- puropse balm can be applied to: This multi- puropse balm can be applied to: lips, feet and heels, spots and scrapes, scars, sensitive infant skin, unruly eyebrows, elbows, nails and cuticles, stretch marks, dry and damaged hair, or cracked nipples.
This balm is preservative free and contains certified organic rose hip oil, certified organic rose hip butter, certified organic everlasting oil, certified organic calendula oil, certified organic lavender essential oil and certified organic shea butter.
Rescue Cream
Tested by Emma Sheppard
I was sent a rescue body cream from Kosmea Australia to review for Green Kiddie which provides information about green and natural care for the family.
What did we think about the Rescue Body Cream? -
My first reaction was to the smell , I was greeted with a refreshing natural smell. I'm guessing that has something to deal with the rose hip oil which is one of the natural organic ingredients.
I applied it like it recommended to straight after my shower all over my body - now I would be lying if I didn't say the first place I rubbed the rescue body cream into was my stretch marks. I felt a instant tingling feeling, to me that screams that it's doing the right job. It left my skin feeling smooth and hydrated. After the last couple of weeks I can feel the skin that was cut and left loose from my gall bladder removal feeling tighter and looked like that elastic has returned just like the cream said it would.
Even the other half got in on it and used it , unlike me trying to cure my stretch marks he used his for his dry skin. He explained that he felt more moisturised after using it and fresh.
Though we couldn't see that it was recommended for sunburn it had been a godsend this week with the sun that we had caught despite being covered in suncream. It cooled the skin and this was also the case for Oli's nappy rash which this heat has caused.
We as a family found it to be great for all our body issues.
Clarifying Facial Wash
Tested by Claire Walsh
I love Australian beauty products they seem so much more wholesome than UK/ US ones. So when I was asked by the fabulously useful website GreenKiddie if I would like to review some Clarifying Facial Wash by Kosmea I jumped at the chance. It's also very rare that I get asked to try products for me, it's always stuff for the kids. PR companies take note; mummy's need loving too!
I really like Bloom cosmetics, but I had not heard of Kosmea before. Kosmea were started by an Australian mum and the company aims to be the number one natural skincare company in the world. They are SLS free, petrochemical free and have no artificial colours, fragrances or mineral oils. All good stuff.
The facial wash proved to be a joy to use, it was luxuriant (if a bit runny) and smelt fabulous. I really did feel as if I had had a facial in a salon, as I was left with that lovely smell you get from salon quality products. I suffer quite badly from pregnancy caused Acne Rosaea which has not cleared up. I have tried a range of different products and even antibiotics to sort it out without much success. However, I am told that rose hip oil is a miracle oil for this sort of thing. I can't say that I have noticed a great deal of change yet, however it has certainly not aggravated my skin like some other products and so I am pinning my hopes on it.
All in all, I think that this product really is a treat and I am going to investigate the other Kosmea products further. It's a bonus to find another good quality organic Australian brand and you can find it in the UK here.
Rosehip Oil
Tested by Josephine Middleton
I've been trying out the Kosmea organic Rosehip Oil for a few weeks now and have to say I love it! I'm a sucker for any kind of oil that you apply to wet skin - I love the way it traps the moisture and leaves your skin feeling so naturally silky and soft. It comes in a lovely little bottle with a dropper - you only need a few drops at a time - which makes it perfect for travelling and holidays, as you can save on valuable luggage space - dump all those big moisturisers and just take this one tiny little bottle! Don't get it mixed up with your Rescue Remedy though and drop it onto your tongue...
I've found it particularly useful over the last couple of weeks when it has been so sunny and my skin has felt dry and thirsty at the end of the day. A lovely cool shower before bed, plus a few drops of the Kosmea oil on my face, chest and shoulders, and I feel like I'm making up at least partly for all that time in the sun. I'm sure it's not just the sunshine that has contributed to my healthy glow!
Replenishing Moisture Cream
Tested by Lorraine Liyanage
I was recently sent some samples by GreenKiddie to trial out the Kosmea Replenishing Moisture Cream with organic rose hip oil and green tea extract. The cream is suitable for all skin types, but I'm interested to see how it will do on my seriously parched skin which is that annoying combination of dry but oily on the T zone. A friend of mine who works at Neal's Yard suggested using rose hip oil on my C-section scar but I didn't get around to trying out, so it's great to have these products to trial out for the next week or two.
Kosmea is an Australian company specialising in organic skincare formulated around rosehip oil. Obviously we love anything organic on this blog, but reading the company's history, it was founded by a stay-at-home mum, Marie Jenkins, who has built the company up until an international success, so I'm liking the sound of the company even more now! I am a proponent of supporting businesses run by mothers and always have utmost admirations for working mums, particularly those who run their own companies.
Just earlier, I used the Clarifying Facial Wash which was lovely and creamy, but doesn't lather if you are looking for a frothy product. It left my skin feeling moisturised, not 'squeaky' after cleansing. I then also tried the Daily Facial Exfoliant as I've just got off a plane last night and my skin needs some brightening up as I abandoned my skincare regime whilst abroad for 4 days. I usually use Suki Organic products which I buy from Dr. Boo on Northcross Road. They do a fantastic Lemongrass Exfoliating Cleanser with natural cane sugar. This has quite an abrasive, yet gentle, action which leaves my skin feeling quite smooth. The Kosmea exfoliant felt a bit like clay, it was quite heavy, and the crushed rose hips are very gentle, they are not harsh on your skin. As I'm used to a much heavier exfoliant, I found this a bit gentle for my liking, although it did leave my skin feeling moisturised.
I followed this up with the Replenishing Moisture Cream. You may have guessed that I'm baby-free for the day if I'm spending this long luxuriating over my skincare regime! The cream has a pleasant rose smell - the smell of roses always reminds me of Turkish Delight or the smell of my mum's home-baking. For anyone who's ever tried Sri Lankan 'love cake', you'll know that rose water is what gives it its unique taste and smell. Back to the cream - It is light and easily absorbed, definitely not greasy and does not sit on the skin. As I type this, about half an hour after applying the cream, my skin does feel a bit dry still, so I've given it another application. I think I'll follow up with the Rosehip Oil tonight for an overnight treatment and see how it feels in the morning. I've bypassed my usual oil-based serum from REN (another rose-based product, as it happens) that I use twice daily so perhaps this is why my skin feels a little bit dry. Oils are good for balancing out uneven skin tones, even oily skins.
Also, it's worth mentioning that this product has a flip-top which not many products seem to have these days. This is great as I have a habit of losing the tops of lids, or my daughter likes ton unscrew them and fling them around the bathroom, so anything that makes it less likely for the top to be lost is great! I also like that it's in a tube because sticking fingers repeatedly into a pot of cream isn't terribly hygienic, and who can be bothered faffing around with little spoons to apply cream?!
I've now been using the cream for over a week and my skin feels deliciously smooth. I do have to apply rather a lot of cream to fully nourish my skin, so I've gone through half a tube of it already, although I love the smell of it, so have been using any opportunity to slather myself in it. My skin does feel a little bit dry in the morning, so I'd consider using the rosehip oil at nighttimes. I prefer using oils as opposed to thick creams late at night, which is coincidentally what Kosmea recommend for overnight repair of skin, especially as oils allow your skin to breathe and rebuild.
